Im sort of blown away that a 4 year old 1:43 model of my car sells for $130.00: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
I was looking for a black pre facelift ST and was shocked at how pricey they all are. I settled on an even smaller version (1:64) from the black bandit collection which was super hard to find but cost me $15 shipped:
The depressing thing is I can find focus RS for under $75. any chance these prices will drop when the car is older?

that's because that scale is crazy small

That’s a definite maybe.
Speculation is a bad idea with model cars. If you’re going to buy it, do it because you love it, not because you think someone else will love it enough to pay you double sometime in the future.

I’ve found the same thing. I’ve had an Ebay watch out for 1/18 scale E46 M3 (not GTR) and they rarely come up and when they do they’re $200-$300.
The strange thing is that I found a B5 Passat model for $40 on Amazon. I have no idea why anyone in the right mind would buy one, but I bought it as I'd like to have all my cars in model form. Obviously I am not in the right mind.

Haha, 130$... I can get you that 1/18 Minichamps for about... 65 Euros. Just Add shipping. From Europe (25 Euros). Minichamps has it in 1/43 as well but these still are just below 50. I’d prefer that 1/43 though.

“Sells for” or “Is listed for”? The Internet really blends the two concepts.

Depends on the manufacturer and the rarity of the model.
I can pick up hotwheels sized ‘77ish Trans Ams for a buck from lots of places, but when I had my ‘98 Camry? Only one game in town, and I paid $6 for the little bastard.
Mazda/AutoArt made a 1st gen Mazdaspeed3 in 1:48 scale that I bought a ton of when I worked at a dealer, got them for about $25 each. I was selling them on ebay for $75-$100 per because of the rarity, and they were the ONLY ones making a model of that car.

Shared to LaLD (Live and Let Diecast), experts of all things diecast and model car.
Also, as models go out of production and become harder to find, then people who have them charge a premium trying to make money off of you not being able to get it in a store anymore. It’s stupid, but welcome to collecting to diecast, lol.
Side note: Hot Wheels just released a model of the Focus RS in Nitrous Blue if you’re interested. It’s only ~$1 depending on where you go.

Asking prices are best seen as kind of an exercise in free speech. To me, going for implies a transaction with money exchanged for goods. Just keep an eye out, stalking the bay can take months, and don’t be afraid to use the “make an offer” function on fixed price listings.

Plenty of chance prices will drop. Plenty of chance they will go up to. Like any other collectible (yes, people collect these things. The market for them is bigger than “real Focus ST owners”), the value is somewhat unpredictable and based on the whims of the collector market.
Just because that one place is asking that much doesn’t mean the car is worth that though. Shop around and try to find a better deal. eBay can be a good place to start.

not to disparrage American Excellence where I buy the majority of my diecasts / resins but they sometimes operate like a seafood restaurant in in popular tourist area where dishes like lobster are “market prices” if a particular model or color seems to be more popular and have more demand they raise the price eventhough sometimes the same mode of a different color will be $10 lower, just my 2cents for what it’s worth

diecast examples of “normal cars” tend to cost more than the typical supercar/sports cars. This sucks in particular for those who want a model of what they drive.

A similar one to the one you posted at the top ‘Ford Focus 1:43rd’ is for sale on eBay U.K. for £33.64 with free P&P (USD$44).

Want mine? I sold my FoST last year and don’t have an emotional connection to the model. I even think that bottom picture is mine. I don't have the original box, but I do have the plastic display case it came in.

I have both, although I swapped the wheels on the black bandit greenlight to ‘stock’ wheels. My 1/43 Minichamps model is just sitting in a box in the basement. I think the only thing missing are the screws to attach it to the base of the display case.

haha so I wanted to do the same thing with the wheels but anyways I already bought a minichamps 1:64 model with the black wheels. I am interested in your bigger 1:43 model. What price did you have in mind?

I could do $30 shipped for it, assuming you’re in the U.S. I think I paid $55 for it when I bought it. I kinda miss my old ST. Had I picked up an ST3, I may still have it.

I will do $30. I don't want it if you are going to miss it and can pick one up for 40ish it seems online so let me know. otherwise you would still have the 1:63 ones to play with.

I wouldn’t get hung up on that one price. Patience is a virtue when hunting scale models, and there’s plenty of price gouging out there. You can either find a good specialist to source you one, or stalk eBay until one pops up.

I won’t miss the model at all. It’s literally been in a box since we moved about 8 months ago. You'd be saving it from my 6 year old finding it and destroying it like my other 1/43 Lemans cars!

That I do. Buymyautoparts @ gmail.com. For a fellow Oppo, just knock it down to $15. That'll cover shipping and going to the post office. And I'm serious, please don't send more than that.

You have two options. They make a 1:18 white model but it’s very pricey. The details and quality are the best you can buy but you might find the price too much: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1720166766…
Your second option is to buy a super mini 1:64 which I actually just bought in black and was very impressed. This is a a model of the STR race car and would be an easy repaint to all white and is cheap as well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BU5…
